Favorite Spanish class: SPAN 299 Conflicts in Text from the Southern Cone. Because it was a challenging class that required me to really improve my reading and writing ability and I enjoyed writing about the topics in class.
Study abroad location: Málaga, Spain
Favorite memory from study abroad: Being able to travel throughout Spain and the rest of Europe was the experience of a lifetime.
Plans after Dickinson: To either attend graduate school or hopefully get a job!
Advice to perspective students: I would say no matter what, seriously take a language course and at least minor or major in it. Having some sort of ability to use a second language is extremely important in all facets of today's world. It gives you a step up over the rest of the crowd.

Favorite memory from study abroad: Spending a week in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador
Plans after Dickinson: I hope to do policy work of some kind (hopefully immigration) and use Spanish in my career!
Advice to perspective students: Don’t be afraid to get involved on campus! You won’t regret it.

Favorite Spanish Professor: Professor Castellanos (but I had her for Portuguese, not Spanish)
Favorite Spanish class: My favorite Spanish class was Spanish 205 in the Malaga summer program. It was the Spanish culture section that I really enjoyed, I learned so many new things that I wouldn’t have otherwise.
Study abroad location: Málaga
Favorite memory from study abroad: My favorite memory was when I touched down in Malaga, I had never been on a plane or left the US; it was my first time in another country. My host mother took me to her home and showed me the view of the ocean from her terrace, it was so beautiful.
Plans after Dickinson: I want to go to graduate school and study applied linguistics.
Advice to perspective students: Pursue your passion and do it wholeheartedly, take the courses that you enjoy and definitely engage with your peers.

Favorite Spanish class: My favorite class has been Spanish in the Health Professions. Spanish in the Health Professions is a class that focuses on providing in person opportunities for Dickinson students to practice their Spanish abilities. Not only were students learning a variety of Spanish medical terms from around Latin America and the Caribbean, but we were also creating connections with the agricultural workers that worked near the Carlisle area. It was such an immersive experience that I highly recommend to all Dickinson students.
Study abroad location: I studied abroad in Malaga, Spain!
Favorite memory from study abroad: My favorite memory from study abroad was going for tapas and wine with my close friends in Pedregalejo!
Plans after Dickinson: My plan is to get certified as a court interpreter. After taking a gap year, then explore graduate school options (mostly likely social work)
Advice to perspective students: My advice would be to feel comfortable with making mistakes especially when it comes to learning languages! Also, feel welcome to take advantage of the Multilingual Writing Center tutors, they are a great help!

Favorite Spanish Professor: Prof. Antonicelli
Favorite Spanish class: Spanish 201 - Prof. Antonicelli made us all feel very seen and made very conscious efforts for us to enjoy learning complex grammatical structures. It was always an instant mood booster saying hello to her when we entered the classroom and her energy was always so positive and caring.

Favorite memory from study abroad: Getting to hold a baby sloth in the Amazon Jungle!
Plans after Dickinson: Probably work freelance in social media management
Advice to perspective students: Treat yourself with kindness, dignity, and respect. Give yourself grace. Not everything will work as we hope it will but if we are patient and put out good energy to the world, it will come back to us in some way shape or form.

Favorite Spanish class: SPAN 381: Spain & the European Union (in Málaga). Professor Álvaro García Gómez’s lectures were very engaging, and it was interesting to learn about the history of the EU and Spain’s attitude towards it.
Study abroad location: Málaga, Spain
Favorite memory from study abroad: Spending time with friends at the beach nearly everyday. Málaga is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Plans after Dickinson: Pursue a career in finance, possibly in Spain.
Advice to perspective students: Talk with your professors! A strong relationship with them can help improve your Spanish and earn you a better grade.

Favorite Spanish class: SPAN 231, we learned a lot about Spanish culture and politics in a lecture/discussion format which made the class more engaging and helped out a lot when I went abroad.
Study abroad location: I studied abroad in Málaga, Spain in the fall and I was in Norwich, England for the Spring
Favorite memory from study abroad: My favorite memory from abroad has to be the time we spent together as a group when we visited Granda and got to tour the incredible Alhambra and spend time in the city enjoying the delicious food and amazing scenery that Granda sits in.
Plans after Dickinson: My plans after Dickinson are to go to Graduate school for Geomatics, and later work in the land surveying or geospacial technology industry in the US or South America
Advice to perspective students: My advice would be to get to know your professors, join clubs and student organizations and study abroad!

Favorite Spanish Professor: Professor Past
Favorite Spanish class: SPAN 299 Migration and Exile in Caribbean Contexts with Professor Past. I loved how Professor Past structured the class to focus on different areas of the Caribbean. Additionally, we used different lenses to look at each text to help us understand each one better. These lenses were helpful in analyzing the texts for our class, but they are also applicable skills to utilize in other classes!
Study abroad location: Dickinson in Ecuador and Argentina
Favorite memory from study abroad: I really enjoyed making close friendships with other Dickinson students that may have not happened if we had not been part of the same study abroad program!
Plans after Dickinson:
Advice to perspective students: If you can, take advantage of the whole breadth of the major. I am on the Language and Culture Track which allows me to take Portuguese in addition to Spanish. I was even able to use Spanish as the basis for learning Portuguese.

Favorite Spanish class: My favorite Spanish course was Andean futurism with Professor Lopez because it was the first class in which I got to analyze indigenous literature and multimedia. Additionally, we were allowed to write on the whiteboards during discussions which provided the perfect amount of hands-on learning for my liking!
Study abroad location: I studied abroad in Mendoza, Argentina for a month, and I studied abroad in Málaga, Spain for a semester.
Favorite memory from study abroad: My favorite memory from study abroad was learning how to cook paella from my host mother!
Plans after Dickinson: To work as an environmental technician before grad school.
Advice to perspective students: Talk to your professors whenever you get the chance and ask them about their journey through school! Ask questions in and out of classes.
