How has Dickinson prepared Claire for Life Beyond the Limestone? “While every student picks a focus of study, I think that at least for me, the transferable skills of researching, writing clearly, and presenting my ideas effectively, are what has best prepared me for life after college,” Claire explains. “Although my declared major is history, I have had the amazing opportunity to engage in a wide array of courses, all of which have prepared me in some capacity for life after Dickinson.”
What are some of the defining moments of Claire Dickinson experience? “Working in the Norman M. Eberly Multilingual Writing Center has been a highlight of my Dickinson experience,” Claire says. “While the job itself has opened so many doors for me professionally, it has also connected me with some of the best students on campus. I am grateful to have gotten to know each and every one of them. I was also incredibly fortunate to have been a member of the varsity Cross Country team at Dickinson. Thanks to the support of my coaches, I have achieved goals that I never thought were possible, and was able to compete at the national level three years in a row. More importantly, I have forged friendships with my teammates that will last a lifetime. Finally, studying abroad in Bologna, Italy, is something I will always appreciate. I grew so much as a person, met some amazing people and was able to travel to places I had always dreamed of visiting.”

How has Dickinson prepared Sam for Life Beyond the Limestone? “Dickinson's faculty has guided me toward incredible research experiences in the life sciences,” Sam explains. “I feel that what I have experienced as a biology major has taken me well beyond the classroom. I have been fortunate enough not only to read the works of leaders in my desired field, but personally discuss this research with the leaders themselves. My education was not simply a conceptual exploration. I was able to witness and participate in the wonderful world of biology and will continue to do so as I pursue science.”
What are some of the defining moments of Sam’s Dickinson experience? “Traveling to the Georgia Pines of Buena Vista with Associate Professor of Biology Scott Boback's Natural History of Vertebrates class,” Sam says. “I remember feeling as if I was in my element and simultaneously unfamiliar with everything around me. It was a wild ride, but it made me realize that scientists were a good bunch. It's not all sterile pipets and lab coats.”
