Compost and Waste Reduction

All food waste is collected and turned into compost with the help of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Farm. With the help of the Hobart WastePro 1200, food and paper products are ground into small pieces that reduce the waste volume, so they are easily compacted into 10-gallon green buckets. The smaller pieces have a high surface area-to-volume ratio, which means that they can be broken down faster, making the composting process more efficient. This compost-ready waste is then collected in green buckets and placed on the loading dock, where they are picked up daily by student farmers to be brought to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Farm to complete the 360-degree cycle of Farm to Fork to Farm™ and use the waste as a nutrient-rich soil amendment.
