How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has allowed me to get to know my professors very well. My good connection with Associate Professor of Philosophy Jeff Engelhardt in his class Philosophy of Race and Gender in spring 2022 gave me a platform for my academic abilities to be recognized, which I believe contributed to being selected for the research assistant position. This experience gave me experience in research and writing, which I believe helped me secure my current part-time employment at the Aubrey Group. Beyond these experiences, Dickinson has shown me how to work with others with different perspectives and think critically.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has made me fall in love with learning. I genuinely open my books for pleasure, not because I have to, not because I need this degree to get a job, but because I can't help myself. I came in thinking I would study international relations but instead developed almost an obsessive fascination with the mind. Dickinson has encouraged me to nourish my curiosity through both neuroscience and philosophy. I feel that I have learned how to learn, how to never be satisfied by a trivial answer, how to be open yet careful with ideas. I think these are invaluable lessons not only in the academic setting but in the world of distortion and misinformation in which we live today.
